BIOGRAFIE

Peter Snijder (1974, Herentals – BE) is an artist who brings light in the dark world. He embraces darkness to understand the light. His leather boots are marked with scars full of symbolism and carry him through the uglyness of everyday, chained to a bitter society. Armed with the scent of black humour, a critical view and a gallon of melancholy, he fights this daily reality and morphes the world as we know into a universe to itself. Inspired by simplified gothic architecture, liturgy and heritage, his light beacons are like a signpost who will bring you to a notion. A kind of perspective full of mystic beauty, with room for some passionate naivety. A resting point, where it is possible to daydream while you overview the wasteland, where you come to understanding and pick up perspectives. Soulsoothing filosophy. Spectral depth. The installations glimmer in a soft blue glow, topped with red details on a black background. His detailed and fine fingerwork give the sculptures a soft personality. But that is just a first impression, it seems an illusion but if you dig deeper, the work will reveal its layers. It astonishes and all of the sudden it is frightening. It carries regret, stillness, romance… an old soul. It embraces doubt, fear and anger. But always with a common goal, a finnished artwork is never just an object, no, you have to hear its soul sighing.
